The Munnar trip in Vishnu's Scorpio was awesome. I don't remember most of it but I do remember that it all happened on the eve of Friendships day.
The first of the many pitstops of the night was at a waterfall. I am not sure which one, but I am sure that the day was a very rainy one. There was water drizzling all around and everywhere. The dark of the night sucked in all the surrounding lights. The mighty waterfall was right next to the car. It was majestic falling from the heavens thrashing onto the darkest rocks creating a view as if it was a white carpet rolled from heaven to earth. Driving away towards our next stop we all had but one thought in our mind, a journey well begun.
The next stop was a random bus waiting shed. We never knew why we stopped there. May be someone had to take a leak or whatever. We sat there in that waiting shed for a long time. Talking about our old times. Memories served right from hearts. Nandu, Aswin's younger cousin stood there shocked hearing Aswin's old notorious adventures.
I do remember it was exactly 3:45 in the morning when we. Munnar city and found shelter in a petrol pump. Thanks to Krishna Das, Aswin and Vishnu to drive the five of us safely through the winding roads. I honestly was struggling to stay awake. There had been numerous occasions when I would fall into sleep and suddenly start singing some random song out loudly just to show those three that I was not sleeping.
Return was quick and it felt like the air around us weighed a tonne. We all had run our mobile batteries out. All our parents thought we were at Aswin's house. And Aswin's parents who were both abroad thought we were at Vishnu's.
Even during this scary journey I couldn't help my eyes from noticing the beauty of the rapids that was flowing parallel to the road. We couldn't stop anywhere, we were late, damn late.
Looking back, it was an awesome time and we hit it just right.
