Building the nest.

The birds are finally finishing their nest. I don't think anybody is happier than I was to see them finally succeed. For me the end of their struggle meant something more, much more.

It was almost 9 days ago I saw them coming inside my home. It was easy for them to go in and out through the open-to-sky roof of my house. This was an ideal location for their nest, no predators and an easy escape from the weather.

As I lay in the bed lazily I watched them go in and out. Their timing wouldn't be any more perfect as here I was trying to build a nest of my own.

The birds' skillful attempts went fruitless for the first few days. I remember they couldn't even place leaf on the light to set a foundation for their nest during the first 6 days. Their unwillingness to quit sent a jolt of determination through me every time I saw them. I even pushed them a small pitcher of water and yes they did drink from it.

Something fascinating happened on the 7th day. Birds visited my house no more. I was saddened by the thought they abandoned their mission. But then again how could the birds stop trying to build their nest ? What would shelter the eggs they are about to lay in a few days ? With a heavy heart I hoped for them to have found another safe spot. At the same time I wondered if it is time for me to give up and find something new, or old for instance.

A miracle happened on the 8th day. Displaying their perseverance they came back. They came back with more twigs and leaves. They showed up more frequently. Their efforts surprised me and I responded with a push of another pitcher of water.
The birds are delighted and more determined than before. They not only managed to make a better foundation they but are progressing swiftly in their mission building their nest.

As days pass my perseverance is getting pushed to the limits. I'd be lying if I didn't say I am getting a little tired and I wish someone push me my pitcher of water. But then again would the birds have stopped if I hadn't ?
